Green Building Certification
With LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) building gaining momentum and more developers profiting from official certifications of their buildings, GigaCrete plans to further enable project owners to profit from carefully choosing their materials. Since 2000, over 730 buildings comprising 5% of all new commercial structures in the U.S. have been certified as green buildings by the U.S. Green Building Council. And, nearly 5,800 are now in the pipeline. Working with noted architect, consultant and author, Eric Corey Freed, GigaCrete will offer customers a summary report of the points our products will likely generate within the various LEED Green Building Rating Systems (Note: The USGBC does not certify individual building products – only finished buildings). GigaCrete will provide information on how our products fit within these scoring systems and the documentation that a project owner needs to submit to the USGBC to apply for relevant points.
GigaCrete estimates that its products will potentially help builders gain LEED points in these areas: Innovation, Energy and Atmosphere, Materials and Resources, and Indoor Environmental Quality. Depending on the geography of the project, which products are used, and in what quantity, GigaCrete anticipates that customers will be able to earn points in these areas.
Initially, GigaCrete will offer guidance on PlasterMax, PlasterMax-IND, PlasterMax-ICF Base Coat, and PlasterMax-ICF Finish Coat.
To make it easy for our valued builder customers, we will have download-able templates they can use in filing for LEED certification. As required to obtain LEED points, GigaCrete will gather the information necessary to file each point relevant to our product suite and make it available in a .pdf file called a “LEED Credit Template.” While these reports will help, actual filing requires site-specific background information from the building project team itself. GigaCrete aims to enable builders to increase LEED-specific project value by adopting our products. The builder is always responsible for any fees to the U.S. Green Building Council for credit rulings and reviews. Check back in the near future on this page for further materials on this GigaCrete initiative.
